Workers across Indonesia will hold a Labor Day demonstration on Wednesday, May 1, 2025, at the National Monument (Monas) Square in Central Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto will also attend the demonstration.

The President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) and President of the Labor Party, Said Iqbal, said that this action would be attended by millions of workers throughout Indonesia.

"On May 1, 2025, one million workers will take action to commemorate Labor Day across Indonesia," said Said Iqbal during an online press conference on Thursday (April 24, 2025).

The plan is for the workers' action to commemorate Labor Day to be held at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK).

However, due to the Indonesian National Team (Timnas) match against China on June 5, 2025, Said also respected the match and would move the Labor Day event to Monas Field.

"Originally, it was going to be held at GBK, but we respect the match between the Indonesian National Team and China, so the grass at GBK must not be damaged. Finally, the labor union decided to move the May Day event to Monas Field," Said added.

Regarding the labor action at Monas Field, he said that there were more than 200 thousand workers who would participate in this event, especially workers throughout Greater Jakarta and its surroundings, including in Karawang and Cilegon.

"Almost 200,000 workers from Greater Jakarta and surrounding areas, including workers in Karawang and Cilegon, will come to Monas for the Labor Day event," Said said.

Not only that, he said, President Prabowo will also attend the Labor Day demonstration by workers at Monas.

"President Prabowo is the second person, after the first President Soekarno, to meet with workers on Labor Day," he said again.

Meanwhile, for workers outside these areas, Labor Day events will be held in their respective regions. Said stated that workers in 30 provinces will hold similar events.

"For workers outside Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek), Labor Day events will be held in their respective regions, some in the provinces, some in the districts/cities," he said again.

During the Labor Day event, workers will present six demands related to current issues related to the conditions of workers in Indonesia.

Here are six demands from workers in the May Day action on May 1, 2025:

1. Elimination of the outsourcing system in the work environment
2. Asking the government to form a Task Force (Satgas) for termination of employment (PHK)
3. Asking the government to provide decent wages for workers
4. Protect workers by passing a new Employment Bill (RUU), not based on the Omnibus Law
5. Protect domestic workers by passing the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (PPRT)
6. Eradicate corruption by passing the Asset Confiscation Bill.

"We hope President Prabowo will give us the best gift on Labor Day this year," Said concluded.
