Airlangga and Luhut to Negotiate 32% Import Tariffs with US Trade Minister Today
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the Indonesian government is continuing negotiations with the United States (US) regarding the 32% reciprocal tariff. He stated that Indonesia has written to the US, which has been accepted by the Trump administration.
Even today, Airlangga and the Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, will hold a virtual dialogue with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. He stated that no specific strategy will be publicly announced regarding negotiations with the US.
"The specific strategy wasn't made public, but Indonesia has sent a letter to the US, and it's been received. In fact, this afternoon, I, along with Mr. Luhut, will speak with the US Secretary of Commerce," he said when met at the Raffles Hotel in South Jakarta on Monday (March 14, 2025).
Airlangga also announced his plans to fly to the US for negotiations. He plans to fly to the United States tomorrow evening.
"Tomorrow night (flying to the US)," Airlangga said briefly.
Regarding the Indonesian government's target for a reduction in reciprocal tariffs, Airlangga stated that this would be one of the areas of negotiation. However, he declined to specify the target amount Indonesia is seeking.
"The target is part of the negotiations; the main thing is that the target is lowered. There's no guesswork. There's no pressure, and no targets have been announced to the public," he concluded.
