PUSAT FURNITURE KANTOR
To prevent them from getting dirty and quickly damaged, here are tips for cleaning and caring for your work chairs and desks.
Who's got a desk covered in coffee grounds, snack crumbs, or dust that seems to have come from nowhere? Or a chair that's starting to look dull and uncomfortable?
Our desks and chairs are like "silent coworkers" who accompany us every day. They may not complain, but if not maintained, they can make your work environment unpleasant. After all, who can focus on work if their space is dirty and messy?
Come on, let's discuss them one by one!

Clean Regularly
Most people only clean their tables or chairs when they're already visibly dirty. In reality, dust and dirt can already accumulate because they're invisible to the naked eye.
Tips:
- Wipe the work desk at least 2-3 times a week using a soft microfiber cloth.
- Do not use a cloth with a rough texture or sponge that can scratch the table surface.
- Use an appropriate cleaning fluid. If the table surface is wooden, use a wood-specific cleaner. Don't just spray it with dish soap!
- Office Chairs Also Need “Pampering”
- Chairs are often the victims of neglect. They're sat on from morning till evening, the backrests are pulled and tugged, and coffee is sometimes spilled on them. Without proper maintenance, the upholstery can quickly deteriorate and the cushions can become hard.
Office chair care tips:
- If your chair is made of synthetic leather, simply wipe it down with a damp cloth and mild soap. Don't scrub hard.
- For mesh or fabric materials, you can use a mini vacuum cleaner to suck up any dust that gets stuck.
- Also check the wheels, as they often get caught in hair or dust. Clean them with a small brush or tweezers.
- Avoid placing excessively heavy items
A desk isn't a multi-purpose shelf. Sometimes we just randomly place printers, large speakers, or stacks of heavy books on it—over time, it can cause the surface to warp or the legs to wobble.

The solution:
- Provide additional shelves to store heavy or bulky items.
- Place heavy items in the center of the table to distribute the weight evenly.
- If it starts to wobble, check the table screws and tighten them regularly.
- Avoid Eating and Drinking on Your Desk. It's hard, especially when you're busy. But eating at your desk is a nuisance—crumbs can get caught in the keyboard, sauce can drip onto the table, and there's the ugly ring of leftovers left behind.
Tips:
- You can put a placemat or tray on the table when you are having a light meal.
- After finishing eating, immediately wipe the table using a damp cloth or wet tissue.
- Keep wet wipes in your desk drawer for cleaning up after eating or drinking.
- Use Additional Protection: If you love your table or chair, there's no harm in using protection. This can be in the form of a transparent tablecloth, a thin tablecloth, or an extra chair cushion.
The advantages:
- Prevents permanent scratches on the table surface.
- Reduces the risk of the seat quickly tearing or getting dirty due to direct contact with clothing or skin.
- Easier to clean and replace when dirty.
- Take Care of Metal and Chrome Parts: Chairs or tables with metal or chrome legs often look shiny... until they end up dull and rusty. Don't wait until it's rusty before panicking.
You can take care of it by:
- Wipe the iron parts using a dry cloth or wet tissue regularly.
- If you find stubborn stains, use a mixture of water and vinegar to clean them.
- After cleaning, dry immediately to prevent rust.
- Avoid Direct Sun Exposure
If your workspace is near a window, be mindful of sunlight exposure. Continuous sun exposure can cause desks and chairs to fade, especially those made of fabric or synthetic leather. Tips:
- Use sheer curtains or roller blinds to reduce direct light.
- Move the position of the table or chair if the light is too bright.
- Or choose chair and table materials that are more heat resistant if the room is very bright.
Pay Special Attention When Moving

Whether renovating or simply changing the layout of a room, we often just move chairs and tables around. The result? Scratched table legs, damaged chair wheels, and even scratched floors.
Suggestion:
- Lift, don't slide, especially for work desks.
- If you have to slide, use a base such as a thin carpet or large cardboard.
- Check the nuts and bolts in case any are loose after moving.
- Clean Chairs and Tables Make Working More Enjoyable
Caring for your desk and chair isn't complicated—as long as you do it regularly and know how. By taking care of these two pieces of furniture, you'll not only make your workspace more comfortable but also extend their lifespan.
