Peak of the Mudik Flow, Vehicle Queue at Gilimanuk Port Reaches 12 Hours

A long queue of vehicles occurred at the peak of the homecoming flow for Eid 2025 at Gilimanuk Port on Wednesday (26/3/2025). The queue was dominated by private cars leaving Bali for various regions in Java Island. The queue stretched up to 4 km outside Gilimanuk Port, with the long line extending past the Bali Barat National Park (TNBB) intersection at Cekik-Seririt. The waiting time for vehicles at Gilimanuk Port is approximately 12 hours before they can board the ferry.

One of the travelers, Ridwan, explained that he was at the intersection of Cekik-Seririt about 3.5 km from Gilimanuk Port.

"The queue is quite dense," said Ridwan when confirmed by Bisnis, Wednesday (26/3/2025). The Jembrana Regency Government has anticipated the queue by preparing parking lots at several points. The Regent of Jembrana, I Made Kembang Hartawan, explained several traffic scenarios in the Jembrana Regency area. The aim is to anticipate the density of travelers in Gilimanuk, including reducing travel time along the Denpasar-Gilimanuk road by redirecting routes at several points as done in previous years. Especially in Gilimanuk by utilizing alleys for redirecting private vehicle routes. "We are deploying all the resources we have such as Satpol PP, the Transportation Agency, BPBD, Pecalang, and regional assets used as parking lots. All of this is to facilitate this year's homecoming activities," said Kembang in his official statement. Kembang urged travelers to remain cautious and maintain safety on the road.

The Lebaran homecoming flow for 1446 H began to show an increase at the Gilimanuk Port on Wednesday (26/3/2025), H-5 ahead of the holiday. The queue of vehicles, especially private cars and motorcycles wanting to cross to Java, has been getting longer since 12:00 WITA.

From the data received from Tuesday (March 25, 2025) until this morning at 08:00 WITA, the number of pedestrians and travelers in vehicles leaving Bali through Gilimanuk Port reached 68,754 people, which is a significant increase from the previous number from Sunday to Monday (March 24, 2025), which was only 54,888 people.

The Jembrana Police have implemented traffic engineering by enforcing a buffer zone and delaying system to anticipate vehicle congestion at the port. "Today, the flow of homecoming traffic has started to increase at Gilimanuk Port," said Jembrana Police Chief, AKBP Endang Tri Purwanto.

"He revealed that the queue of private vehicles at the Gilimanuk Cargo Terminal has reached the Mbah Temon area. Private vehicles and motorcycles are directed to that terminal before heading to the special lane of the Port Maneuver Terminal. "Meanwhile, trucks and buses continue to use the main Denpasar-Gilimanuk route towards the Landing Craft Machine (LCM) dock," he explained on Wednesday (26/3/2025).

"Ending also explained that vehicles in the Maneuver Parking Area and ASDP Parking Lot are still waiting for their turn to load and unload at the port. The queue of trucks and buses at the LCM Pier reaches about 1.4 kilometers up to the front of Hotel Lestari Gilimanuk. 'The flow of vehicles entering Bali through Post 2 Gilimanuk is still smooth and has not shown a significant increase,' he said."

"They also conduct strict inspections of vehicles and passengers to prevent the entry of illegal goods, sharp weapons, explosives, drugs, and individuals without identification. The inspections are carried out by personnel from the Operation Ketupat Agung 2025 with the support of metal detectors, mirrors, and tracking dogs from the K9 Unit of the Bali Police."

"Traffic security and management continue to be carried out to ensure a smooth flow of homecoming. Traffic engineering has also been implemented, including the enforcement of buffer zones and a delaying system," he said.

"Meanwhile, Endang continued, for three-axle vehicles, they are directed through the Pengeragoan Security Post and the UPPKB Cekik Gilimanuk as part of the delay system. This step is taken to reduce congestion and expedite the crossing process."

"The situation at Gilimanuk Port is still under control, although the volume of vehicles continues to increase. We urge travelers to remain orderly, comply with the instructions of the officers, and ensure their vehicles are ready before embarking on their journey for a smooth Eid al-Fitr 2025 trip," he said.

"The ending reveals that a total of 32 ferry motor boats (KMP) are operated to expedite the crossing flow. The details are five boats at each Movable Bridge (MB) Dock I-IV and 12 boats at the LCM Dock. "The docking time for the boats varies between 25 to 45 minutes, depending on the type of dock used," he concluded."
